Self-Employment in a World of Severance

I've just got through Season 1 of Severance and my mind is buzzing with how it applies to the self employed. If you haven't heard, Severance an Apple TV series which explores the dystopian idea if it were possible to split the human mind to live completely separate work and home lives, where neither one has any memory of the other. They operate completely independently as if they were two different people. It's dark, weird and has been wildly successful winning multiple Emmys.

One thing struck me about the idea as I watched through as someone who's been self employed for over a decade - these personas could never be separate for me, even if it were technically viable. People often talk about work/life balance as if they're distinct from one another. They are all intertwined for the self employed. No threshold we can cross over or clock that flips a switch once we get home. Our home is regularly our office and vice versa. My experiences during the time I'm working have a big influence over my home life. Similarly, what I learn from parenting and being part of a family will affect how I interact with clients whilst working.

To be able to split the two sounds like a wonderful escape and simultaneously completely unimaginable. Another world, completely alien from mine even in a work of fiction.

In other, less rambling thoughts - After a month off, I posted videos on OpenAI's new function calling feature, replacing some Bose QC35 ear pads and I checked out whether AI can code a full codebase (link below). Short answer, sort of...
